Bump Day

16 Weeks...
Weight gain:
8 lbs.

Symptoms:
The nausea and fatigue are pretty much gone (knock on wood), but the migraines and nose bleeds have been awful. I had a 3-day migraine last week. Now, I get anxious anytime I feel the slightest onset of a headache. I have always struggled with migraines, but these are much worse and I can't take my usual medication. The nose bleeds aren't anything new either. I've gotten nose bleeds since I was really young, but now they seem to last forever. I had one at work last week that took an hour to clot.

Cravings/Aversions:
Corn dogs! Brady went on his first "cravings run" last week. I needed a corn dog in the worst way. I'm also craving pasta - I just want carbs and marinara sauce every night. I've been trying to eat well throughout the day - eggs, fruit, vegetables - so I can indulge at dinner. My aversions haven't changed... coffee and spearmint.

Maternity Clothes:
I still fit in my regular clothes, but they're definitely snug - especially my pants! I bought my first pair of maternity pants last week and they're amazing. It made me realize how uncomfortable my normal pants are. I tend to wear a lot of flowly tops and cardigans so I don't think I'll need many maternity tops (at least a for awhile).

Exercise:
I really slacked off during my first trimester. I was too tired to even consider going to the gym. I've been better my second trimester. Brady and I walk a few times each week (when he's in town). I've been working out 2-3 times weekly - usually two days of cardio and one day of strength training. My hip has been really painful the past couple weeks, since we returned from California. I'm doing a lot of physical therapy stretching.

Sleep:
I'm sleeping well, but I wake up 3-4 times each night to go to the bathroom. It's getting really annoying. I stopped drinking water after 8 pm, but haven't noticed much improvement. I'm also trying to become a side sleeper, which is so much harder than I expected. I lay on my side for about 30 minutes then give up, turn on my back, and fall right sleep. I've had the most vivid (and strange) dream since getting pregnant. I always wake up thinking "that was weird," but then I can't remember them after getting out of bed.

Special Moments:
I felt the baby move for first time this past weekend! I had just woken up and was laying in bed when I felt a little flutter. I wasn't convince it was the baby, but then it happened again :) so exciting!

Weekend Update

Brady has been traveling nonstop the past 6 weeks. He leaves for California (again) this week, but requested a weekend at home doing nothing - I was happy to oblige :) I feel like I'm already in the nesting phase and I love it.

We went out Friday night with Brent and Molly. 7 Seas Brewing just opened in Tacoma so we had to try it out. I was impressed. The space is huge! It has a food (only thing I care about these days), coffee, shuffleboard... perfect brewery for pregnant ladies.
Welcome to Tacoma
This place is massive
Beer for Brady, San Pellegrino for me
Saturday and Sunday were very chill. We cleaned the condo (I've become even more OCD about cleanliness lately), went for a walk, watched movies, got Thai take-out. I fit in a couple naps, took a bath, and read my book. It was great.
One of my favorite books and a chai latte
Love finding new houses on our walks
Burning the last of my summer candles. I'm ready for fall :)

Maternity Things

I haven't bought any baby items yet... wish I could say the same for my mom. She just can't resist. I'm going to hold off until we find out the sex (three more weeks), but I have been looking at a few maternity things...

1 |  I bought my first pair of maternity pants from GAP. I still have a couple pairs of pants that fit and I'm using a hairband for all the others, but I feel self-conscious using the hairband. I don't like feeling of have my pants unbuttoned. So far I'm loving these...
2 | I'm trying every migraine remedy in an attempt to avoid Tylenol and ibuprofen as much as possible. Peppermint tea hasn't been working for me (but I still drink it every night), but I'm going to try peppermint essential oil
3 | I just bought a pregnancy pillow because I thought it would help me sleep on my side. I'm sleeping well, but on my back. So far it's not working and the pillow ends up on floor at some point in night. I'll keep trying.

4 | I hate paying full price at places that regularly offer sales, but this Anthro blouse was too good! I'm overly excited about non-maternity clothes that can be worn during pregnancy and this top is perfect.

Weekend Update

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I had a 72-hour migraine that left me feeling pretty worthless.

We had amazing weather the weekend and I was cooped up the dark. No fun.
View from the top floor of our building (after my little gym session)
Brady was on a golf trip in San Diego with his dad and brothers for a few days so I had the weekend to myself (again). I spent the majority entire weekend trying migraine remedies... Tylenol (obviously), lots of water, ice packs, exercise, mint tea. Nothing worked. Ibuprofen + pedialyte + a good night's sleep finally did the trick. Just when the nausea starts to improve the migraines kick in - just my luck.
Forced myself to elliptical and lift weights
Returned to my Harry Potter marathon
Thought fresh air might help
Tea and compression pain relief mask
These weekend updates have gone downhill fast... pregnancy is no joke.

Bump Day

We're having a baby!
I am 14 weeks along and due on Valentine's Day :)
We found out I was pregnant in June. Remember how I was scheduled for hip surgery in June? It had to be cancelled because we found out I was pregnant the day before. The timing was crazy, but we are thrilled.

Symptoms:
I've got to admit, this pregnancy hasn't been easy. All-day nausea and migraines are really getting the best of me at this point. Surprisingly, my hip hasn't been too problematic thus far. It only caused trouble in California when were walking all day. Fortunately, the fatigue has improved. I spent my entire first trimester sleeping... I would sleep 8+ hours each night and take a 2-4 hour nap after work each day... it was extreme exhaustion.

Cravings/Aversions:
I'm craving salt! I've been eating a lot of soup, cottage cheese (mixed with salsa), Wheat Thins (tomato basil), and pasta. I'm getting hungry just writing this post. However, coffee is a huge aversion. I cannot stand the smell. Also, spearmint - I won't let Brady chew spearmint gum near me. I normally have a sweet tooth, but sweets just aren't doing anything for me these days.

I'm planning on weekly (or every other week) baby posts. A new element to STANDARD MIX :)

Santa Monica & Santa Barbara

We had the best mini babymoon in California (the big one is coming in October!). Brady has been traveling so much lately. It was nice to get away and spend time together.
We flew into LAX on Wednesday morning and went to straight to brunch at Cora's Coffee Shoppe in Santa Monica (which was delicious!). Then we spent a couple hours at the Santa Monica Pier and the beach. The sun and sand felt amazing.
Brady loves to brunch
Dream job
Soo many people
Not feeling great about a bikini these days
We did a little shopping before heading back to the hotel to freshen up. I was craving a good salad so we went for dinner at True Food Kitchen
Shopping :)
Really into frozen yogurt on this trip
Healthy restaurants. Brady orders pizza.
Beautiful sunset
We woke up early on Thursday to drive to Santa Barbara, which is the most picturesque city. I felt like I was in It's Complicated (my all-time favorite movie) and I loved it. We spent the entire day exploring Santa Barbara - beaches, restaurants, shops (all immaculate). We did pretty much the same thing on Friday and Saturday.
Obligatory
These palm trees!
Santa Barbara is beautiful
Oysters
I would highly recommend staying at The Fess Parker
Resort pool
Shopping (again)
What do you know... more oysters
Sushi date! Fried/baked sushi definitely isn't as good
Nothing better than mornings at the pool
Stalking sailboats
The homeless in Santa Barbara are so clever
Dad bod?
Sunshine. Sand. Salt water. Palm trees.
Pizza at the Lucky Penny
How Brady spent most evenings... Dad would be proud.
We had an early flight out of LAX on Sunday so we drove back to LA Saturday night. We stopped in Venice Beach for dinner and to see the sunset.
Sunset at Venice Beach
Surfers at sunset
These colors
Creeping on the lifeguard. I'm so envious of this job
More baby posts coming this week...
In case you missed our Instragram/Facebook post... we're expecting :)
