Vancouver, B.C.

We spent another Thanksgiving in Canada!

Last year we went to Victoria (post linked here) and this year we visited Vancouver. Evie's first time in Canada😊

To be honest, it wasn't the best trip. We probably shouldn't have gone since we were all sick. Brady and I felt awful the entire time. We were living on coffee and pseudoephedrine. Evie was actually the healthiest out of the three of us after having croup last week.

We cut the trip short by one day. We drove up on Wednesday night and came back Friday night. It's so much better to travel with a baby at night! Evie did great - slept nearly the entire time.

We visited our favorite brunch spots - Jam Cafe and Twisted Fork. This is what we look forward to most when we visit Vancouver. Is that sad?

First time in a booster seat
She's so grown up (she was stalking the ladies next to us)
We lucked out with the weather on Thursday - no rain and even a bit of sunshine! We strolled the downtown area, shopped, walked along the water. Then we went back to the hotel so Evie all three of us could nap😴
 We're in a clapping phase
 Beautiful walk
 Stroll through the marina
The Capilano Suspension Bridge Park was celebrating their Winter Lights Festival. Brady and I visited Capilano in the summer of 2015 (post linked here) so we had an idea of what to expect. This was crazy. I couldn't believe how many lights there were - they covered so much ground and reached the tallest trees. It was impressive. Definitely the highlight of the trip!

Weekend Update

Evie has croup😷

We had a great weekend until the early hours of Sunday.

Saturday was a gorgeous day - sweatshirt weather with sunshine! We went for a walk along the Sound and played with Evie all day. She had a runny nose, but was otherwise fine.
I told Brady it's still strange to see green grass in November... don't see this in Iowa

 Haha she's going for it
She woke up at 1:30 AM on Sunday with the worst cough I've ever heard. It sounded like a seal barking. She had a fever and was visibly uncomfortable. We gave her ibuprofen and spent several hours nursing and rocking. She seemed much better throughout the day. She was eating, nursing, and playing as if she wasn't sick. We weren't too concerned until she vomited in the afternoon. That was alarming. We debated whether to visit Prompt Care or wait until her pediatrician visit on Monday morning (this was previously scheduled as her 9-month well check). We ended up waiting until Monday and her pediatrician said it was a mild case of croup, but wrote a prescription for prednisolone in case it gets worse.
Fortunately, Evie seems to be doing much better! However, Brady and I both woke up on Monday feeling sick - sore throats and congestion. We're hoping to still take a mini-trip for Thanksgiving. Fingers-crossed.

Nine Months

This has been a great month...
I love this stage! I know, I say that every month, but Evie is so energetic, interactive and playful. She has an irresistible smile and contagious laugh. Sorry, mom-gush over. This month was especially good because there was no teething involved! Unfortunately, I've just spotted a bottom tooth coming in.

She's still sleeping pretty well. Her bedtime has gotten a bit earlier. It's been 6:00-6:30 lately because she doesn't nap well at daycare and comes home exhausted. She can usually make it through the night, but sometimes she'll wake up around 3:30-4:00. She goes back to sleep quickly after nursing. She naps well at home - usually two 90-minute naps and one 30-minute nap late in the afternoon.

She is eating mostly table food. She eats the same meals as Brady and I. So far, she's been enjoying scrambled eggs, spaghetti, sweet potatoes, avocado, oatmeal. She had salmon for the first time this week and loved it! She's also drinking from a sippy cup at mealtimes. She's really into the sippy cup, partly because she gets water out of it and partly because it's a new toy.

Her vocabulary is expanding, but no "mama" yet😒 There has been a lot of "dada" but we're still not counting it as her first word because it sounds more like a ramble than a reference to Brady. She makes a sound that a can't quite describe... a growling "H" sound? It's been nonstop for the past few weeks. She loves when people mimic her sounds.

Evie loves climbing on everything. She is crawling everywhere. She's pulling herself up to a standing position constantly. She's our little explorer. Apparently, she's started climbing into the toy box at daycare - sometimes she climbs out and sometimes she just plays in there😂

Seriously, my favorite month yet!

Weekend Update

We had a great weekend at home.

It was cold and rainy so we spent a lot of time indoors. We had a playdate with Molly and Blair on Saturday. It was so fun to see Blair and Evie together! They're at such a cute stage! They're interactive and playful. They're crawling everywhere and babbling nonstop. Wine was necessary😜

We spent Sunday afternoon shopping. We only bought baby clothes. Pretty standard these days. When we got home Brady took Evie for a walk so I could cook dinner and meal-prep for the week.
